Today started with a more sleepy outlook as James had needed a wee at 1.30am. Joy. But breakfast was a rather fun affair with Stephen on duty. How daddy makes it more fun I don’t know. Actually I do. He and the kids love a leisurely breakfast and the results tend to involve way more creativity than I could ever fathom. OK, I’m probably being a little hard on myself – I’m usually trying to feed them and get them both off to school.
Anyway, they had fun shaped toast – zig zag and volcano, and Genevieve got to have toast and porridge. Yum.
Breakfast was followed by our now daily dose of the awesome Claire from Munchkins sports with some dancing. Today’s line up included the classic of Staying Alive and Blinding Lights by The Weeknd. I really love these sessions. They get me moving and help a positive start to the day – even if I’m the only one actually doing it! Lol!
The home school activities were paused at this point as we needed to pop to the bakery to buy bread and I was worried we hadn’t pre-ordered. Also meant I could buy their delicious iced fingers for pudding! And I discovered large bars of diary milk chocolate in stock isn’t enough small sweet shop next door. #winning
Then the real kiddy entertainment started. The tasks on the list today for Genevieve included a few different games on the iPad to practise spellings, reading and phonics. James took full advantage and played games instead.
Then we needed to get outside so we had a couple of rounds of treasure hunting all the amazing rocks we had painted last week. Our garden is not big, and it is fairly sparse of hiding places. But that just meant we got inventive. Camouflaging white rocks on the white windowsill and hiding them on the tops of the fence posts were favourites with me!
Genevieve’s next task involved understanding how to write a set of instructions. So, we discussed the process of making lunch and both kids made sandwiches with instructions. Genevieve insisted on salami but James loves a jam sarnie. Both opted for Frazzles and followed it up with half an iced finger! Yum!
After lunch we wanted to get some fresh air so I set off with lots of gusto and positivity, 2 children, 2 scooters and 2 helmets. I think we had done around a quarter of my intended route when James announced he no longer wanted to scoot or wear his helmet. Then, when we were halfway round (still at the top of the road, but I was not about to give up), Genevieve’s scooter wheel came off. Cue me giving her James’s scooter, and carrying hers instead, followed by screams from James at wanting his scooter back. Honestly. We successfully finished said walk, with me carrying both scooters, James carrying a wheel, and Genevieve with both helmets.

Full of determination I decided both of them needed to have some creativity in order to calm down. Mindfulness art. That’s what I was going for. We drew planets in chalk pastel. Genevieve made the MOST mess I have EVER encountered from a child in this medium in 15 years of art teaching. Not exactly what I was aiming for. Thankfully we were saved by the end of high school musical “We’re all in this together…” and magical story time with Grandma Lindsey. The kids literally are loving their daily talk time with their grandma and todays was no exception. There was a mermaid story with grandmas in peril, sharks and special armour! They loved it.

It’s not quite tea time and I’m already considering opening the wine. It’s day 2 of week 2. I think I may be an alcoholic by the end of this!
Mothership out.
