This morning Genevieve woke up bright and early but James and Daddy were still sleeping so we snuck downstairs to start the day. Genevieve had been really keen on using the iPad with headphones to play games. Turns out all I needed to do was to give her headphones to do all her educational home learning stuff (reading eggs, spelling bee and numbots) and she was happy. Ugh. The joy of hindsight. But she was very happy to do this for a good 30min which meant I could send an email to Great Auntie Stella in Spain and get some other jobs done.
After breakfast we continued with a spot of home learning before we went on our adventure. Today’s quest was deliver rainbow drawings to the lovely neighbour opposite and to collect bread from the bakery – 20min walk away. It all started so well with a spot the rainbow challenge. Things swiftly took an interesting turn when Genevieve decided she was going to add extras to her counting for ones she had seen on previous days whereas James and I were doing ones we had actually seen. Arguments ensued. Still, we made it to the bread shop and retrieved our delicious farmhouse loaf!
The way home was not any less eventful with the exciting discovery by James of a stick “shaped just like a number 7”! Cue Genevieve having a strop because she didn’t have one. We managed a temporary truce when we found a second one “shaped like a number 1”! Alas this was short lived as nothing measured up to the number 7 stick (which was then brought home and is still residing in the house somewhere). We did manage a moment of calm whilst we sat on the bench and looked at “the whole world”. There was a quiet spot of reflection before the moaning about how tired they both were started again.
Upon our return home I was super excited to find the new paints I had ordered for the kids (along with the inks I have been coveting for the best part of 3 years) had arrived. The excitement was real. For me anyway. I swiftly set up the block paints and the first painted rainbows were produced! These are currently winging their way to Grandma Lindsey and Grandad Lawrie’s house!
Today was yoga day for James’s preschool group and so we dutifully logged into zoom and started the “children’s yoga class”. I was not expecting to have to complete downward dog over James or having to complete the warrior pose whilst balancing James on my knee and then lowering him backwards. He loved it. It was waaay more of a workout than I was expecting. Lol.

After we had then resumed, and finished lunch, it was time for me to attend a Zoom leaving drinks for a colleague at work. Super sad but also lovely. And rather entertaining as it was 2pm in the afternoon. My lemon squash was laughed at by my many colleagues drinking Prosecco (they did not have young children at home)!
The weather was so nice today that we even managed a short stint in the garden. Stephen successfully riled both kids up sufficiently playing football in the garden and trying to teach them to dribble the ball. It was so lovely for the kids to play with Daddy and I’m pretty sure he enjoyed being just as much of a child with them!
Thankfully it was then dinner time and time for the daily Grandma Lindsey calls followed by bed.
I had forgotten about the Zoom call I’d arranged with my girlfriends but was reminded just in time. This meant that my evening of drinking ended badly, but thanks to a fabulous (and 2 hour early) Ocado man, it was accompanied by the limes I do love in my beer! Ai Corona!
And just like that (except not really), week 2 of home schooling was over. It is now theoretically the Easter holidays. Except I don’t think it’s going to feel any different. Hopefully the weather will last and we can at least enjoy that!
