The day we went into double-lockdown

The day started with more volcano toast and hot cross buns (toasted obviously). However, the toaster kept tripping the main circuit breaker making it more challenging than usual. It’s always nice for breakfast to be as eventful as possible! Upon closer inspection, the toaster was (nearly) full to the brim with burnt crumbs from numerous breakfasts – clearly Stephen needs to update his toaster maintenance schedule.

I had some work to finish so I put on a movie for the kids to watch while I got it all done. Then I took the kids on a walk to the bakery. I managed to stretch it out into a longer walk through the woods which was lots of fun as well as good exercise. This time I was prepared and took the buggy (as James had flagged on the way back last time). Both kids loved picking all the flowers (many of which ended up in Genevieve’s pockets for us to discover at a later date).

The giant teddy tableau down the road had a new addition that the kids also greatly enjoyed.

When we got home we made raspberry jam cakes (a cross between a scone and cake). They were to enjoy later during a virtual tea party for Grandad Lawrie’s birthday.

As the baking cooled we had lunch, mostly as a means to stop the children wanting to eat the cakes (even though they then ended up sharing one for pudding). After lunch we watched “Four Kids and It”, a new film based on the book by Jacqueline Wilson. However, I ended up having a mini snooze partway through so I’ll need to watch it again.

While this was going on Stephen took himself to bed. Uh oh. He had a temperature and was not feeling at all well.

In the afternoon we went outside into the garden for some fun in the sun. The kids were spying over the fence at the new neighbours and one was sunbathing. Cue Genevieve asking for a blanket, book and sunglasses so she could “lie down in the sun like that lady over the fence”. This was said at full volume in the garden for all (including said woman) to hear. Classic.

We woke Daddy up and he watched Star Wars with the kids while I prepared dinner and the chats with Grandma Lindsey and Grandad Lawrie happened. We sang happy birthday to Grandad Lawrie via FaceTime and blew out candles on his cakes – one at his house and one here. The kids really enjoyed this bit. And even better, they got to have more of the delicious raspberry cakes. Yum.

It was clear that Stephen wasn’t feeling well still though. Once the kids had eaten dinner, he went back to bed. Definitely poorly. While he was resting the children and I opened today’s letters from Grandma Lindsey and Grandad Lawrie, and after that I put the kids to bed.

With Stephen’s temperature and feeling unwell, we set up an air bed in the playroom so he could sleep without being disturbed and so that there was an attempt to isolate from him in the house if it is Covid. Hopefully he will feel better after some sleep! 🤞🏻🤞🏻
