Today was really challenging. Homeschooling two young children (who just won’t focus for more than thirty seconds), looking after Stephen (who’s still very fatigued with a headache and sore throat) and attempting to keep on top of the house (shopping, cooking, cleaning and washing) all while sleep deprived (James was up again in the night, and both children were up early) and desperately trying to find some time for myself is taking its toll. I don’t know when things will get better which makes it all even harder. It’s been over two weeks where I’ve been doing absolutely everything and I think I’m close to breaking point.
Whilst battling with Genevieve’s English work for the morning, James busied himself drawing a rather good self portrait (although I’m not so sure about the hair). Genevieve is generally OK at doing her maths, but getting English work out of her is like getting blood from a stone. The solution seems to be using the school-sanctioned iPad apps for her schoolwork, but this inevitably leads to arguments and fights about who’s playing on which iPad (first world problems!). It’s a relentless battle with these two.
Before lunch we made a batch of cheese straws. Funnily enough Grandma Margaret was making some at the same time – the baking stars must have aligned. The children were mostly good during the process, but Genevieve got cross and threw a strop when she saw that James’s straws had more twists than her ones. She also busied herself hoovering up any cheese that had spilt out of the straws meaning she was a greasy, cheesy mess.
We couldn’t go for a walk today as Stephen had to take two long naps and I was just too exhausted from dealing with the children all day. The one upside was that Stephen and I started a new box set on Amazon Prime. The show’s called “Jack Ryan” and we’re already hooked.
