Lockdown: it’s a marathon not a sprint

We continued the attempt to rebuild all of James’s Lego. Today we tackled the cement mixer. Although we’re making progress, I’m going blind from trying to find the specific bricks amongst the thousands of other pieces. While it would be so irritating to not finish the sets I don’t think I can face looking through box after box of Lego. We’re totally going to have to buy some of the missing pieces on Brick Owl!

Stephen was feeling better and so decided to mow both the gardens. He was just keen to get outside and felt like he wanted to do something to help. However, this proved to be a little bit of a mistake as he then needed a three hour nap in the afternoon as it had completely wiped him out. But the gardens look lovely!

While Stephen was mowing, Genevieve “helped” by pretending to fish off the end of the slide. I fail to see how this was helping, but I’m sure it made sense in her head.

Auntie Daisy was meant to be running the London Marathon for Refuge today but, because of the lockdown, it’s been postponed until October. She still managed to take part in a marathon though. Along with 25 other Refuge runners, Daisy was running a virtual relay marathon where each runner completed a mile before virtually passing on a baton to the next runner. Daisy was running mile 24.

Stephen had suggested that Daisy run around the green at the end of our road so that we could come and support her. The kids painted “Run Daisy Run” signs to wave as Daisy completed her mile.

We headed up to the green and made a finish line for Daisy to run through (two wooden staves and some masking tape). Auntie Sara and Uncle Henry, Grandma Margaret and Grandad Stephen, and Daisy’s friend Alice all came to watch too (as well as our friend Gemma who lives just up the road). It was nice to actually see people we knew in the flesh (while maintaining a strict two metre gap at all times, of course).

The kids loved watching Auntie Daisy running around in the space. Unfortunately they weren’t fast enough to keep up with her so ended up running from point to point. They were so busy running and waving that they didn’t want to hold their signs, but the rest of the family held them instead. The whole thing was amazing.

On the way home we spotted the neighbourhood monkey again. He was doing some spotting of his own!

When we got home the children decided that they wanted to “run a marathon” in the back garden. They were very inspired by Auntie Daisy. However, they can’t have run more than 150 metres before they got too tired to continue.

The children settled down to watch Maleficent II again as our rental was going to run out. I’m greatly enjoying the free films we’re getting through Vitality plus it’s making me do more exercise which has got to be good for me!

Sunday night was bingo night with Grandma Lindsey and Grandad Lawrie. Lots of fun. Especially when Grandad Lawrie called the first shape as a pink banana and both kids started looking for it (it wasn’t even a shape on their cards!). Luckily they both saw the funny side.
