Crafty children are happy children

Genevieve and James began the day with some Cosmic Yoga. The theme of the day was Harry Potter – Genevieve was far more in to it than James, but the boy still gave it a go. I would have to try and find a theme in which he’s more interested for future sessions.

Megan had been set a running challenge by her running group. The “This Mum Runs” ladies had to find and photograph road names starting with T, M and R while out for their runs. Megan’s always up for a challenge so carefully planned out a route (being sure to include the required road names) and then headed out to pound the nearby pavements.

Aside from strolling up to the green and back on Sunday, I hadn’t left the house for over three weeks. At this point I was still feeling lightheaded and tired so it wasn’t the right time to venture out, but I was determined to get out of the house before the end of the week.

James enjoyed his iPad time while Megan was out running. In an attempt to curb his terrible tantrums whenever we took the iPad away, we had set up a reward chart system earlier in the week. It seemed to be working and James relinquished the iPad with minimal fuss once his allotted time had finished. Hopefully this was the start of a new chapter and we had seen the last of “Angry James”. Time would tell!

Megan displayed her artistic credentials and got the children creating beautiful flowers from colourful circles of paper. It was amazing to see their utterly gorgeous pictures springing to life from such a simple starting point – it’s no wonder she’s adored by her pupils at school. The crafting session also gave Megan an excuse to get out her paper stamping tools – I think she enjoyed that more than making the flowers!

The children were over the moon with their finished pictures. Megan put them up on the kitchen wall/the family’s makeshift art gallery for us to enjoy every day. Glorious!

Genevieve was still in an artistic mood after finishing her flower and moved on to the whiteboard. She drew a rather impressive self portrait. However, Megan and I were slightly perturbed when Genevieve announced that she was pregnant in the picture. She also appeared to have the world’s longest legs (roughly five times longer than her torso), but we decided not to point that out. Perhaps she had a secret ambition to become a circus stilt-walker?

We ended the day by watching the new, animated version of The Addams Family. Genevieve and James had been to see it at the cinema with Uncle Graham and Auntie Rosie so they were both very excited to be watching it again. However, I wasn’t that impressed with the new iteration. For my money you just can’t beat the 1991 version with the amazing Raul Julia as Gomez and stupendous Christopher Lloyd as Fester (but that’s probably because I was nine when it came out).
