A lovely day for a walk and a trip to the butchers (yes that means BBQ!)

I was grateful for my lie in today. It wasn’t long but it was good nonetheless. The challenge of doing so much and just being in lockdown means I’m pretty knackered lots of the time. Bonus sleep is always awesome.

Stephen was feeling a bit better today and wanted to get out of the house, so we all went for a lovely family walk. It was our first time out of the house all together since Stephen got sick. It was so enjoyable, even if I did have to run back to the house with James who decided he was desperate for the loo when we were on the other side of the green. Always good to keep us on our toes!

Genevieve found a ladybird and everyone helped me with my running group challenge to spot stone animal statues in gardens. Turns out there are lots more locally than I thought. I am defending my clearly unobservant skills with the fact I didn’t actually run down some of the roads, but also that I was clearly going so fast that I didn’t have time to look properly. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

When we got home, Stephen had perked up sufficiently to ask me to go to the butchers so we could have a BBQ on Sunday. I was so happy as this was a sign he was properly on the mend. I was all too willing to purchase some delicious looking pork and leek sausages and Welsh dragon ones too, as well as some Chinese pork (Stephen’s request) and Chinese chicken for the kids. It was strange to be out in the car but I was happy to get out for such a yummy cause.

Once I’d returned, the kids were delighted to have a new package from Grandma Lindsey and Grandad Lawrie. It contained two TY multicoloured unicorn/cat key rings. They LOVE them and have not let go of them once since receiving them (meaning that we have had to have stern words about taking them to the toilet with them).

After lunch the kids watched a film while I snoozed in the chair. Stephen was having a much needed nap after his walk. Then we had some fun in the garden. James had requested playing “baddonk”, his version of garden bowls. Lots of fun, although Genevieve and I preferred to spectate and paint our nails.

This however, did lead to Stephen deciding the lawn needed mowing again. I was inside sorting dinner when he got the mower out. But I was far for impressed with him when I discovered what he was doing. He’s still too wiped after small bits of exertion and this I knew would mean he would be broken tomorrow. So I stepped in and finished the last bits off. It turns out that mowing the garden is not so hard. Hurrah! Plus it meant I got to take some amusing photos of grumpy Stephen (who can never keep a straight face with me around).

For story time today I had both kids in our room again and reread our new Rob Biddulph stories. They love the sitting together and listening to the stories. I think they particularly like them as we have followed the “draw with Rob” tutorials and so know the characters.

With the children in bed I decided I’d earned a drink. Bakewell tart gin with a lemonade mixer – perfection!
