Despite not feeling so great yesterday, Stephen woke up feeling sparky and really wanted to go for a walk. He’s barely left the house for weeks, the sun was shining and the kids wanted to join him, so there was no stopping him. In hindsight it was a poor decision but that’s the joy of hindsight.
They seemed to have a great time though. They blew dandelions, made Egyptian shape in front of a pyramid hedge, saw the neighbourhood monkey playing with a diabolo and (apparently) waved at every single person they walked past.
But sadly this lovely start to the day was short-lived as Stephen crashed and burned in epic style and had a really bad day once he got home. He needed lots of rest and was feeling really run down. It was hard work.
With Stephen in bed I started the children on their schoolwork. Genevieve wrote a comparison of two characters for her book. She worked well, but getting her to work and keeping James occupied was, as usual, a challenge.

At this point I have to confess that I’m writing this a few days late and I can’t actually remember what we did for most of the day. I would guess, remembering the mood of the day, that there was TV, iPad time and some fun in the garden. Although the weather wasn’t as warm as it had been.
I do remember having a work-related meltdown when I was chased for something four times even though I thought I had already done it. Cue me frantically trying to work while Stephen attempted to watch the kids when he felt utterly pants. The icing on the cake, though, was that once I’d submitted the work I receive an email an hour later saying it was an error and that I had already done said task. Ugh. I might need to get back in touch with them to update the situation. Life is still incredibly difficult.
On a more positive note, I also remember that the kids had earned a reward each so received an LOL Doll and a Star Wars Lego set. It kept them happy (and quiet) for a while which was great, and I got to make a Lego TIE Fighter with James.
Today’s letter from Grandma Lindsey and Grandad Lawrie contained a couple of unicorn tiger things that the kids instantly adored. However, I was worried about arguments about whose was whose, but luckily Genevieve insisted I chopped off her one’s keyring. Hurray for small blessings!

I also remember that we had so many starlings in the garden we all had to stop talking to Grandma Lindsey and Grandad Lawrie to come and look. At one point I counted sixteen pecking away at the lawn. Amazing!
I cooked a delicious sausage pasta for dinner for me and Stephen with leftover Welsh Dragon sausages from the butchers. I was supposed to have cooked slow-cooked chilli with the beef I remembered to get out of the freezer and defrost, but then I forgot to cook it in time. The sausage pasta was epic though and will be repeated as it was so yum!

Anyway, we survived and got through the day. That’s the important thing. Peace out.
