The children woke up early and decided to move all of James’s things in to Genevieve’s room. On the plus side they were playing nice and quietly (for once) which mean Stephen was able to sleep until 9.30am. The downside is that I’ve got to tidy it all up again!

Later in the morning we had another family Star Wars session. Today’s film was Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi. The kids liked it a lot, especially James who kept excitedly referring to his books whilst watching the film saying “look, this bit is in my book!”.

The weather was nice so we got out the water table. James seemed most happy splashing the water on the patio rather than playing with the table itself. Lots of fun!

While the kids were happily playing, I went over to my friend Gemma’s garden to have socially distanced drinks with her and our other friend Kerry. I entered the already open back gate and stayed at least two metres away from them both the whole time. Brilliant!
I had an urge for cookie dough so the children “helped” me knock up a batch of peanut butter and chocolate chip cookie dough. They were both “so tired” after three seconds of mixing so I ended up doing most of it, but they were excited to see (and definitely to try) the finished product.

We had a camping adventure planned for the evening so dinner started normally (burgers and chips) but ended with toasted marshmallows. What a treat! We had planned to toast them on an actual fire, but Stephen made do with the gas burners on the hob instead.
Genevieve was able to earn a Beaver badge by camping out for the night. With Stephen still ill we “pitched” the tent in the front room rather than braving the great outdoors. Despite the slight lack of authenticity, the kids absolutely loved it.
We combined the camping with a mini-cinema experience. The children watched Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens from inside the tent. They were very happy munching popcorn while wrapped up in their sleeping bags.
Of course the excitement had to end and it was time for the kids to go to sleep… which to an absolute age. After many threats and repeated telling off, they finally were quiet at 9:45pm so we sneaked upstairs to bed. Who knows how long they’ll actually stay asleep!
