Rock Paper Scissors Beehive Shoe

I expected to be up very early with the children as they’d spent an exciting night in the tent downstairs. However, I was pleasantly surprised when, at 7.15am, James and Genevieve were happily and calmly playing in Genevieve’s room. Maybe the secret to having lie-ins is letting the kids sleep together? Who knows! We’re not going to let them do that again for a while though as it took us AGES to get them both to sleep last night.

Today I knew I was going for another run. I honestly felt tired and not really wanting to go before I set off, but I was really proud of myself once I’d finished. Another 6km run done with a much more consistently fast speed. Hurrah! It’s the power of the Care Bear leggings I’m sure of it.

Once I’d got home, I waited for the Ocado delivery before showering and having some breakfast. The children had spent lots of the morning lying in their sleeping bags in the tent watching Scooby-Doo but Stephen got them up and sorted while I was showering. So we took the tent into the garden and Genevieve set to building her Lego castles and playing in it. I managed a couple of jobs on the iPad before I had to go inside to build Lego with James. Stephen had a nap and a bath. He’s still needing lots of recuperation time during the day.

Lunch was a delicious feast of baked beans on toast. Yum! This was followed pretty soon after by a Zoom call for dinosaur bingo with the Warners and Pitts-Humphries. It was lots of fun, if a tad noisy while Stephen was having an afternoon nap.

After said bingo chat, me and the kids managed to pop up to see what the friendly neighbourhood monkey was doing today before he got rained on. He was also camping – he must have heard how much fun the children had had!

Then there was more Lego fun, followed by more family bingo fun with Grandma Lindsey and Grandad Lawrie. Today, thanks to his two naps, Stephen was feeling good at chat time and so chatted for a while to his parents. It’s been a few weeks since he felt up to it so it was really good.

Then it was dinner time during which the children introduced Stephen to their new game called “Rock Paper Scissors Beehive Shoe”. Stephen being Stephen, he couldn’t just leave it as a silly idea and pushed the children to come up with proper rules for the game, so here they are:

“Beehive wins by putting loads of honey on things. Shoe and rock both beat beehive by breaking it, but beehive beats scissors by gunking them up, and beats paper by making it messy.”

“Shoe beats beehive and stamps on rocks, but paper fills the shoes and scissors cut the shoelaces.”

In case you want to play along at home, here’s a summary from Stephen (yes, he drew out a little game-play map because he’s a nerd):
– Rock blunts scissors and smashes beehive
– Paper wraps rock and stuffs shoe
– Scissors cut paper and snip shoelaces
– Beehive gunks scissors and makes paper messy
– Shoe treads on beehive and stamps on rock

They even came up with new hand gestures for “beehive” and “shoe”. Brilliant!

Finally it was bedtime for the kids. Yey! I was tired after a busy day and wanted to chill out, eat my current favourite dinner (Charlie Bigham Chicken Tikka Masala – yum!) and watch rubbish on the TV.

Overall it was a good day with “me time” too. Hurrah!
