Home-schooling hiatus and Frisbee meltdowns

Today I got a little lie in. James had kindly decided I deserved a wake up call at 1.30am (he needed a wee) so I was very tired. Stephen unfortunately had to deal with the early rise from James at 6.30am (although apparently he did manage to keep him in him room for another 20 minutes before actually having to come downstairs). Will the boy ever have a normal sleeping pattern?

After breakfast, and a lovely call with a friend, I had a class Zoom chat. But by this point Stephen had been up for three hours and was flagging so needed a sleep. It meant my work call was not as simple as I might have hoped. Still, I’m pretty sure my form group were intrigued by my lively (and loud) children!

Once the call was done, I managed to successfully get Genevieve to finish her last English task for the week, and in fact for the term as it’s half term next week! We may be terrible parents for saying this, but both Stephen and I will be glad of a break from the homeschooling. Genevieve wrote a blurb for the book she has been learning about called “Moles Can’t Dance”. I think what she wrote was fab (but I am a bit biased):

“Mole really wants to dance but he doesn’t know how. How can Mole dance when he doesn’t have anyone to teach him? This is an exciting story of how moles can dance!”

I totally multitasked whilst getting her to write her blurb and concurrently played Kim’s Game with James (i.e. guess which object was removed from a selection on a tray). He’s really good at it! I also managed to get both children to write/draw in their special Grandma Lindsey books! #winning #genevievewroteasentence

After school work I decided it was high time we painted our clay models from weeks ago. Partly so I can varnish them and see them all done, and partly so they are out of the way. The children concentrated well and we actually managed to finish them! I was particularly proud of the rainbow oval with each of our thumbprints.

After lunch we decided to head out for a little walk with Daddy and a game of Frisbee on the green. On the way we said hello to the friendly neighbourhood monkey. Today he was playing baseball. Go Yankees!

The green was very windy but was nice and quiet, so we were all set for a fun game of Frisbee. Genevieve has a good arm on her and, when she actually aims, can chuck the disc a long way. James, on the other hand, gives it a lot of effort but that rarely translates in to a decent throw. He’ll get there with a bit of practice though.

Sadly it wasn’t long before Genevieve decided to have a mega-strop and start crying on the floor. All because James threw the Frisbee instead of her. Happy days.

It’s so unfair!

While Genevieve was sulking, James took the opportunity to have some “silly Mummy fun time”. We had a lot of fun messing around…

…and James posed for some excellent solo photos. He’s such a silly sausage!

But sadly it wasn’t long before both kids were crying inconsolably. It was a total meltdown. Oh dear. I just don’t get it. They said they don’t behave like this with their grandparents, so why are they like this with us??? If anyone has the answer then please feel free to share it!

Frisbee tears

Once we’d got home, Stephen went for another sleep whilst the kids and I chilled on the sofa and ate ice lollies. Upon deciding which ice lolly to eat, Genevieve embarked on yet another sulk (for reasons I didn’t quite understand) and James announced: “Oh great. Another day with a sulking girl.” He makes a good point!

A day with some lovely moments but which ended with two tired, emotional and broken children. It’s just so draining. Hopefully the weekend will be better.
