Are the kids too young for mobile phones?

We had the best start to the weekend, namely Daddy’s special pancakes. This was after we had given him a lie in, of course. I do love a pancake breakfast!

I walked over to the bakery nice and early to get our order of bread as we had run out. On the way home I bumped into one of James’s “preschool ladies”. It was lovely to see her and have a chat.

Once breakfast was done, Stephen needed a rest so the kids and I headed into the garden to enjoy the lovely weather.

We took the tents and the toy kitchen outside, and I gave the kids one of the old house phone handsets each to play with. They were totally adorable with them and played so nicely together.

James was particularly enamoured with the phones. He looked like a salesman!

James then got hold of my actual phone and started taking photos of me. I thought this one was rather good!

James got bored of the tents and moved inside to work on a “design your own” jigsaw. The end result was, shall we say, abstract and minimalist. He had fun though.

The lovely outside play was thwarted in the afternoon by a heavy rain shower so we frantically had to bring everything in. There were kitchen toys and play food everywhere!

By this point the kids were ready for running about and being loud, but the weather still wasn’t conducive to outside play, and Stephen was having another nap. Currently I feel like the most stressful thing for me is when Stephen’s resting upstairs and I’ve got to try and keep the kids quiet. This is particularly difficult when they are not in a quiet mood. Stressful!

Despite a few outbursts, the kids had just about been good enough for ice cream. It also meant I got to have some too! Genevieve insisted on eating hers in the circus tent that we’d moved in to the living room. She’s an odd one sometimes.

By the time Stephen came downstairs it was Grandma Lindsey chat time. While the kids were chatting I’d been trying to make homemade burgers for dinner and was also conscious that I still had some work I had to get done. This meant I went into overdrive to attempt to get everything sorted. I was frazzled.

Once he’d finished his FaceTime chat, James thankfully kept himself busy working in his Hey Duggee book. He was extremely focused and thorough, and made sure he’d circled and counted everything properly. Duggee would approve. A-woof!

The kids were a nuisance during dinner and kept winding each other up. The game of the day was kicking each other under the table. Stephen said that any more kicking would mean no pudding. He was taking no prisoners!

Having issued the threat, he then utilised a modern parenting technique and secretly filmed the kids’ feet under the table. Within moments they were kicking each other – they just don’t learn. Stephen then produced the phone and showed them the video evidence. Genevieve looked shocked but impressed that she’d been caught out. With the evidence in hand, amazingly there was no argument when Stephen enforced the “no pudding” punishment. Clever Daddy!

Once the kids were in bed, calm finally descended over the house. Stephen and I had dinner, and then I had a lovely video chat with Charly and Rowan. I particularly loved all the running chat with Rowan!
