This morning I managed to run 6.5km (or 4 miles) for my running group’s four colour rainbow challenge. I love this running group. I love how we all support each other and motivate from afar, and I can’t wait to run with them all again.
Today we had our first socially distanced play date with a girl from Genevieve’s class. She has a little sister the same age as James (so they will also be going to school together in September) and they live just around the corner next to a grass green which is perfect. We left Stephen at home to rest while we headed off with our sun tent, picnic blanket, snacks and unicorn bingo. They all loved the bingo and then spent the next hour or so running around on the grass with scooters and bikes (staying appropriately distanced, of course). It was so lovely and we will definitely do it again. We had so much fun, in fact, that I didn’t take any photos. Fail!
After the morning’s excitement we headed home for a picnic lunch in the living room.
Stephen had another nap in the afternoon so the kids and I went in the garden to do some drawing. The kids were so engaged with their drawing that I actually managed to get the outline pictures done for some cards I need to send to family friends. Result!
Once they were done with their drawing, the kids played a very cheat-filled game of Snakes and Ladders together. Genevieve guided James through the numbers he needed, but James was appalled at the level of cheating she was stooping too (despite it also meaning that he went up way more ladders than he should have). Grandma Lindsey quite rightly points out that we should be impressed with the maths skills Genevieve is displaying, but I’m still not sure it outweighs the cheating.

While the children cheated their way through their board game, I took the opportunity to ink the artwork I’d sketched out earlier. I’m really pleased with the results. Stephen was very impressed!
During dinner Genevieve expressed a sadness that she couldn’t whistle. Stephen took it upon himself to try and teach her. Quite impressively she almost got there. There were a couple of really good (albeit hollow-sounding) attempts before she got annoyed and started puffing her cheeks out instead (much to James’s amusement). I think she’ll get there soon though.
We had a little bit of TV time to calm the children down before bed… which totally backfired as they spent the whole time having a kicking fight on the sofa. Brilliant. So the TV time ended abruptly and we took them up to bed.
With all the sofa-kicking excitement, the kids were both still wide awake at 8pm so we opened Genevieve’s window to let them join in the last clap for the NHS and our carers. I has really been lovely seeing the neighbours all coming out over the past few weeks – we’ll miss the weekly clap.

With the children in bed (but still not asleep), I decided it was time for a well-earned beer, a cuddle on the sofa and a bit of Star Wars on the TV.

A fun-filled and productive day, but I’m very tired as Stephen was in bed for a lot of it.
