This morning I made an early trip to the bakery as we had run out of bread again. I don’t seem to be very good at working out when to get bread at the moment. We either have way too much or we totally run out. Oh well. I’m glad that the bakery know me by name on sight, and now they recognise my voice the phone too. Not quite the same as getting “the usual” at a bar, but under the circumstances I’ll take it!
Today we had a “wedding” to attend. Some good friends of ours were supposed to be married today, but due to the dreaded COVID they have had to postpone until next year. But they marked the day with a beautiful Zoom “cerephony”. It was led by one of the friends who is a civil servant and included a handfasting (ribbon tying) ceremony. Our friend Gemma even came and sat in our garden to drink prosecco (and orange juice) with me. I know it was a wedding, but it was 11am which is way too early for me to start full-on daytime drinking.

Stephen started watching the wedding outside with us but soon moved in to lie on the sofa. He’s not having a good day.
Once the wedding had finished we said goodbye to Gemma and ate lunch. Then we went to see the friendly neighbourhood monkey who had a surprise for the children today. They were super excited to see that not only was he in a boat with a Jolly Roger pirate flag, but he had also written a thank you note to Genevieve and James for their posters. So cute!

Stephen went back to bed while the kids and I went for a socially distanced walk with Grandma Margaret and Grandad Stephen. Hats off to Grandad Stephen for selecting a route that involved three railway bridges (on which we waved at several trains, and they all tooted back) as well as a river (for stone and stick throwing). In addition, the terrain was very suited to hunting for more rocks to paint! All in all, a fantastic walk that was immensely enjoyed by everyone!
We got home just in time for Grandma Lindsey FaceTime, quickly followed by dinner, pyjamas, stories and then bed. It had been a busy day for the children!
Stephen and I had a very busy social evening as we were rejoining our friends for their post-wedding drinks and then participating in a quiz evening with another group of friends. Sadly we didn’t stay for much of the wedding drinks as Stephen was in a bad way, but he self medicated (in a very Stephen way) with a bottle of wine to rouse himself for the quiz. Not a very good idea, but we were so excited to be seeing our friends that it didn’t seem to matter.
In the end we came 4th in the quiz which was very respectable for our first one! The crisp packet identification round was a highlight but we floundered on the Only Fools And Horses questions. We’ll do better next time!
Bedtime was in the wee hours and Stephen kindly slept on the sofa to avoid waking me with his snores (an unfortunate side effect from drinking too much)! I sense a hangover tomorrow but it did make him feel a bit better after feeling rotten all day. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better one.
