The day started well with a quiet morning and calm children. It’s always so nice when they are relaxed and happy when they wake up. James came to join me in bed for some cuddles and television before Genevieve woke up. They were both taking full advantage of the fact that Stephen slept on the sofa for fear of snoring (after having slightly too much to drink last night).

At one point in the morning, James had been to the toilet and managed to get both of his legs stuck in the same leg hole of his pyjama bottoms. Very entertaining.

The weather was nice so we all started playing in the garden. I set up some car ramps for James with his Hot Wheels track. My ramp building skills are improving exponentially. I’m very proud! By the time we had finished, he had a four-way track going that, I think, slightly blew his mind. There were cars going everywhere!
And the most fun activity of all – making the cars knock his Playmobil people off the track before crashing into a box.
Genevieve was happily playing with her Playmobil figures too. There’s been a renewed interest in the figures thanks to the Playmobil movie we’d watched in the week. Thankfully she’s happy with the ones she’s got – I was worried there’d be demands for more figures at some point!
As the weather was so nice, we had a lovely picnic lunch and then more garden fun. Apparently the weather’s going to be less nice next week so we’re enjoying it while we can.
After lunch I popped to Sainsbury’s to collect the awesome new sun loungers Stephen had managed to find for us. They’d been out of stock everywhere so we were excited to have got hold of them. One of Stephen’s traits is stubbornness, but that works in our favour when it comes to ordering hard-to-get items as he just perseveres until he gets them.
The loungers are so good and we a complete bargain. They’re something we would never usually buy (we’re not natural loungers, preferring to be out doing fun things instead), but owing to the likelihood of being at home a lot this summer, we feel they will be a wise investment.
I gave the loungers a proper test by reclining and enjoying a Magnum ice cream. Genevieve was also keen to test them out – she gave them two thumbs up!
Stephen was able to join us in the garden to chill out for lots of the day which was so nice. He even managed a tickle fight with Genevieve. He won, but I don’t think Genevieve minded – she was just happy to be playing with Daddy.

Sunday is, of course, Grandma Lindsey and Grandad Lawrie bingo day. This was as fun and entertaining as usual (Stephen won but didn’t dare call “bingo” as we didn’t want two crying children), but was made even more exciting as it was finished with some old-school Fun Snaps bangers in the garden. I had found a box whilst tidying earlier in the day, so Stephen and I decided to introduce the children to the fun that is gunpowder wrapped in tissue paper. They loved them. No surprises there bearing in mind that they’re related to Stephen as well as Uncle Chris, Henry and Graham.

For dinner I made more pizza dough from scratch again. It was another successful batch, and this time I even managed to roll it out neatly (my first attempt was less well behaved). Homemade pizza for dinner – yum!

While I was cooking, Stephen took the kids up to see the friendly neighbourhood monkey. Today he was tying knots which is lucky as Genevieve needs to learn how to do a reef knot for Beavers.
While the kids ate their pizzas, I went for an evening run and managed a new 5km PB: 30min 11sec. Now I am definitely determined to run a sub-30min 5km in the near future. Speedy!

The kids disappeared up to bed meaning that Stephen and I could make and eat our pizzas before cuddling on the sofa. Stephen’s had a much better day today and really enjoyed spending time with the kids. A lovely end to a fun-filled day.
