I was wondering why the Frisbee was getting bigger, and then it hit me

This morning both Stephen and I woke up incredibly tired. Stephen still had aches and a headache from yesterday, and to add to the problem James had woken him at 1.00am needing the toilet. I had also been woken by James but at 4.30am and then struggled to get back to sleep as Stephen was snoring. The perfect storm of sleep deprivation.

It was a school day for Genevieve so, of course, I had to wake her up and force her out of bed at 7.45am. A stark contrast the day before when she had been up and running about at the crack of dawn. After a rather rushed breakfast and a dash around the house getting ready, we somehow made it to school on time. And I still said a brief hello to some of the mums before heading home to start working.

The working day for me started by trying to email out all the home-learning for my students. Sounds straightforward but I have to download all the individual work packs and then email it all for each student. A new development on this is that I’m also having to resize all the larger PowerPoint presentations so that they will fall within the 20mb email limit. Thankfully Stephen’s shown me how to do this quickly, but it’s still a task that (1) I shouldn’t have to do, and (2) takes precious time out of my already busy day. Joy.

Luckily Stephen didn’t have a call until 11.00am so he was able to work and entertain James whilst I had a call at 9.45am with some colleagues. At lunchtime he headed off for his scheduled nap and James and I had a picnic lunch.

It was soon time to collect Genevieve from school. She was most excited to show me her nature picture and hand cut out which are hanging in the classroom window for us to see. She then insisted we take the longer route home through the woods with her friends. All very well and good until, a mere three minutes into the walk, she utters those feared words “Mummy, I need a wee”. Cue us leaving said friends and pretty much running the whole way home. But, super proud of her – she made it and had dry knickers all day! Yeay!

Once we were home, Genevieve had a bath and it was time for her to get her Beaver challenge for the week completed before her Zoom meeting. This week she had to colour the American flag and find out a fact about the country. I had to step in and help her with the colouring as there was no way she was going to do the star section without going over the lines!

Whilst she took part in her Beaver Zoom meeting (with me keeping tabs on the constant muting and un-muting), Stephen took James to see the friendly neighbourhood monkey. The monkey was proudly showing off the local newsletter in which he was the main feature. Good work monkey – well done!

Stephen had taken our squidgy Frisbee with him so he could attempt to play with James on the green. His theory was that he could stand still while James chased after the disc.

Stephen said that James threw the Frisbee enthusiastically but that he needs a lot of work to finesse his aim. James was particularly good at throwing the disc entirely perpendicular to where it should have been going. So the plan didn’t quite work as most of the time was spent with James forlornly looking at the Frisbee that hadn’t gone where he wanted it to. Practice makes perfect though – he’ll get there soon enough!

After dinner the kids were super excited to see me anti-bac all the new (second hand) books I’ve been buying via Facebook over the last week. Once I’ve picked them up, they go into quarantine for at least four days before then being cleaned (I’m happy with the level of risk). The haul included a whole group of pirate stories and a set of Star Wars books. James squealed when he saw these! It meant that both children wanted to be good to have the new stories before bed – result.

Now that the kids are in bed (but not yet asleep), I’m looking forward to a curry dinner and a very early night. Rock and roll.
