Sunday is double-pizza day

The kids woke up bright and early. There must be some internal mechanism that compels young children to wake their parents up at an ungodly hour whenever Sunday rolls around. Delightful. As I’d been up at 4:00am with James, Stephen whisked the kids downstairs so I had a lie-in until 7:45am.

My friend messaged and asked if I wanted to go for a run. I had initially decided to go for a walk today and not run today as my knee was being “twingy”. So I said yes to heading out, but we agreed to walk/run a gentle 5km instead of running the whole thing. However, we had so much fun that we actually ran 6.2km and only walked for the first few minutes. Who knew it was so easy to get carried away! Oops.

In other running related news, I discovered that I’d made pride of place in the latest This Mum Runs post on Facebook. I’m the second image down from the top-left corner.

While I was getting dressed, it appears that James hijacked my phone and recorded himself in a series of “freestyle” selfies. He’s such a funny little chap. He knows he shouldn’t touch our phones, but these little videos are utterly adorable.

Genevieve wanted to draw a lion with Stephen. He’ll freely admit that art is not his strong point, so he found a series of “how to draw” guides online and presented them to Genevieve. However, none of them had a scary enough face for Genevieve, so Stephen suggested that she pose for a photo and then use that as inspiration for her lion’s face. The outcome was, frankly, terrifying. Great work Genevieve – roar!

In the afternoon I had a drinking date/catch-up with my friends Kerry and Gemma. The original plan was to sit in Gemma’s garden but the weather looked like it was threatening to rain. Nonetheless, we were determined to see each other so I packed a raincoat and headed off.

Stephen was still flagging so I’d arranged for the kids to go to Grandma Margaret and Grandad Stephen’s for the afternoon. They had a wonderful time in the park – there’s so much to climb on and explore.

And they painted yet more stones that they’d found in the park. It’s the hobby that never ends!

Well, actually it turned out that it was only Genevieve who engaged with the painting process – James not so much.

The children also did some pictures with spaghetti before Stephen went to collect them.

Once home, Stephen attempted to weed the driveway and front footpath with the kids. It’s been on our hit-list for weeks, and the constant rain and sunshine had resulted in some whopping great weeds. Unfortunately, James was more interested in smashing the stones and attempting to dig through the anti-weed mesh, and Genevieve wanted to stop and study every single bug she found. So progress was very slow but they got there in the end.

I made wrap pizzas for the kids’ dinner. It’s a great meal as it’s super quick to make, but annoyingly it then took them both ages to eat their meals. And to add insult in injury, they were both exceedingly tricky to get into bed. With last night’s dens still in place, the silliness lead to drawers being knocked over and clothes spread around their rooms. As a result we had to take down both dens which lead to yet more angst and fuss. Joy.

Once they’d finally settled, we got to enjoy yummy homemade pizzas (with another batch of my homemade dough). Stephen had forgotten we were having pizza for dinner and had also had pizza for lunch. Whoops! Perhaps double-pizza Sunday will be a new tradition?
