Catapults aren’t just for Dennis the Menace

The day started well with Stephen finally feeling a bit better (the first time in over a week). It was so good to hear that he was on the mend after being so poorly.

The kids were a bit argumentative and feisty in bed this morning so we didn’t hang out and cuddle for as long as usual. It has definitely been getting harder with the kids over the last couple of days. The combination of being stuck inside and Stephen being so poorly is taking its toll. They want to hug Stephen but can’t and I’m doing so much and am stretched thin which is making life hard.

I’m using any spare time (not really having any but doing what I can) to sort out the kids’ cupboards in the playroom (when Stephen’s not asleep in there). I found a whole load of half-done sticker and activity books that I had got out the night before. This entertained both kids successfully for a while (but not as long as I’d hoped).

We also got out one of James’s birthday presents – a Lego building gadgets book. He loved building the claw but the catapult was the definite winner. There were lots of giggles as he send balls of paper flying through the air.

We attempted some garden time but, once James had watered his sunflowers, the kids decreed it was too cold for them and wanted to stay inside. So we watched the Lego Ninjago movie instead while I had a much needed snooze.

For dinner we were having home made burgers – a family staple that always goes down well. James helped me mix the mince, seasoning and onions but wasn’t so keen on getting his hands messy.

Then it was time for FaceTime chats with Grandma Lindsey. There was much excitement over all the different options for chat time – pirate-themed Guess Who, new snakes and ladders boards, or Billy Goats Gruff puppet stories. So much choice – awesome work Grandma Lindsey.

After putting the kids to bed I tucked into some delicious fudge. While resting in the playroom last week, Stephen had apparently ordered three little presents to say thank you for looking after him. They will be arriving over the next week. The first one arrived today – a box of fudge from Fudge Kitchen. He totally didn’t need to but it is rather yummy!

I also received some beautiful rainbow flowers and a card of support from my friend Charly. They’re gorgeous and will really brighten up the kitchen.

  1. This is lovely and so well done Stephen. I loved the the fire making story and the rookie mistake of barbecuing. Dave still makes that mistake after all these years.”
    Keep well.
